For me, Panama represents new exploration yet failure. In 2002, I hopped on buses all the way from the Southern border of Mexico until I reached the Darien Gap in Panama. It was my intent to enter Colombia but I was turned away by police. On Christmas Day, however, I did have the chance to visit the Panama Canal which had been a lifelong dream of mine.
